Nature Club inaugurated by Department of Biotechnology
Today, in the race for scientific progress and economic growth, man has become insensitive towards the feelings and needs of fellow beings. Therefore, the need is felt to sensitize them and educate them about Bioethics in classrooms. Realizing the need of the hour a one day seminar was organized by the Department of Biotechnology, T John College on Awareness of Bioethics. It was attended by about 150 teachers and students from five colleges across Bangalore. The programme began with an invocation song, lamp lighting and an enlightening and motivating address by the Principal, Dr. (Sister) Flower Kommattam. The seminar began with a talk on the Historical perspective of Bioethics by Dr. Sonia Chacko, a talk on the Principles of research ethics and discussion on case studies by Dr. Bini Toms and a talk on IPR and patents in Biotechnology by Ms. Bindu Sharma. The lectures were followed by an interesting elocution competition. MSc BT IV sem students especially the student coordinator, Mr. Srikanth HS was instrumental in making it a fruitful day packed with lot of information and useful discussions.
